The best flooring for your Hallway

It’s the very first part of your home that people see, and one of the busiest areas too, but what’s the best flooring for your hallway?
We take a look at the options for hallway flooring which not only look good for an impactful entrance but are hardwearing, practical, and can work across a range of budgets.

What’s your property style
As with designing any room, it can be difficult to think which floor to choose for your hallway from the outset. So, to help you get started, think of your property, its age, its style.
For example, if you have a period home or a cottage, you might want to look at a floor in a traditional style. This can come in form of rich woods, oaks, even patterned floors reminiscent of older, Victorian properties.
If you have an apartment or you are renovating to transform your home to a modern style, then lighter woods, grey tones or brighter patterns will work.

Think of the size of your hallway too – the smaller it is, the lighter you might want to take the floor to help open the space.

Practical floors
Here at Flooring 4 You, we pretty much only ever install the most practical flooring solutions in hallways for our customers. These include both luxury vinyl (LVT) and laminate floors. That’s because when it comes to keeping floors clean, minimising damage, and getting the look you want from a floor, they tick all the boxes. Usually whether a customer chooses an LVT over a laminate, it comes down to price and convenience.
A Quick-Step laminate floor is quicker to install than a luxury vinyl, for example. And depending on the size of the hallway, a laminate might also suit those with a tighter budget.

Parquet hallway floors
Patterned hallway floors have grown in popularity in recent years, and this continues with the more traditional parquet styles too. And with more and more LVT flooring companies offering a parquet wood effect solution, customers can tick several boxes. They get a fabulous looking floor or their hallway, which triumphs when it comes to practicality and enduring busy family life. Here are some examples of the more popular hallway floor ‘looks’ we have delivered. These are designed using Amtico’s Spacia collection of LVT, which is worth considering for the parquet look as it is better on the budget than some of the other parquet LVT options.

Premium LVT Hallway floors
For bigger budgets, there are LVT flooring options which bring even more flexibility to your hallway style. Take Amtico for example, whose range of Signature LVT flooring allows you to play with everything from different laying patterns to mixing different colours of parquet block into one floor.
And Karndean’s Art Select collection lets you take the same colour floor across multiple rooms, in different plank sizes. So, you could have a parquet hallway floor, blending into a kitchen or lounge with a plank effect LVT. Here are a couple of examples to showcase how creative you can be in designing your hallway floor.

What’s popular right now?
We’re seeing lots of interest in hallways with immediate impact, creating that little bit of grandeur. Many people are looking to recreate the Victorian-style tiled hallway floors of years gone by with luxury vinyl tile flooring. This works wonderfully in older, period homes as we said before, but who’s to say it won’t look just as fabulous in a new home, or newly renovated hallway? Especially if you pair the floor with a fabulous, coloured door, or stunning stair runner.
What’s great with going for a patterned LVT floor in your home compared to a stone tile is that it is far more family friendly, warmer underfoot, and easier to maintain. Take a look at these wonderful, patterned hallway floors installed by the Flooring 4 You team across the region.
