Make an entrance - hallway flooring
Your hallway is the first part of your home people see and combined with the stairs and landing, it’s one of the home’s busiest thoroughfares. Choosing flooring that not only looks good for an impactful entrance but is hardwearing to withstand high volume daily tread is important.
We share some ideas for choosing hallway flooring; looking at options that deliver on practicality, tick all the boxes for everyday living and can work for a range of budgets.
Consider your property
Where do you start with the overall look? To help you, consider the age and style of your property. If you have a period home, traditional works very well using wood or tile effects, while laminates or LVT planks in muted greys and whitewashed colours are great for contemporary properties. If you only have a small hallway, think about the colour of the flooring too. Lighter tones will always help open the space and even more so when combined with light décor.
Lots of laminate choice
Across the budget spectrum, there is plenty of choice for a welcoming hallway floor.
At the lower end is Quick-Step laminate flooring, easy to install and great for both modern and traditional styling, but even better if you have a big family coming in and out, children playing in the hall or lots of dirty footprints to wipe up. It’s very hard-wearing and practical, and with a choice of plank sizes, looks great in small or large entrances.

Step back in time
For immediate impact and a little bit of grandeur, why not recreate the Victorian-style tiled hallway floors of years gone by with Amtico luxury vinyl tile flooring? This works wonderfully in period homes, especially those with large coloured or dark front doors. What’s great about Amtico is you can style your floor the way you want with their design tiles, planks and strips, and being a vinyl, the flooring is tough, strong and a very practical for those with busy families, children and pets.

The epitome of luxury meets 100% natural – bring those timber floorboards back and revel in the beauty and practicalities of engineered hardwood floors from Ted Todd. Towards the top end of the budget, a natural wood floor will last and last, developing its own unique finish as it ages over time. Whether planks or patterns like herringbone and parquet, Ted Todd’s styles and finishes will suit modern or traditional hallway design schemes.
With hallways prone to heavy footfall, it’s important to go for an engineered board that can withstand such demanding environments. The Foundation collection is ideal – made from slow grown European oak, the planks come finished with smooth durable lacquer or hardened oil, for easy maintenance and extra durability.

Parquet your hallway
Probably the most sought-after flooring over the last year, and it’s still as popular as ever, the classic parquet style brings a sophisticated finish to any hallway. For those that want natural and the very best quality, Ted Todd’s engineered patterns allow creativity with parquet. For those with a preference for practical, the LVT flooring manufacturers Karndean and Amtico also have a range of parquet flooring wood effect planks. From light tones that complement modern spaces to darker shades for a more traditional finish, luxury vinyl parquet flooring is handcrafted to look and feel like real wood.
